There is more
Last year I was at the water station filling up my drink bottle and, as is my custom, when it was 2/3 full, I turned and started to walk away. However, this time the Holy Spirit interrupted me, and His words have changed my prayer life.
The Holy Spirit said this: “Roz, that’s what you do with me. You walk away when you’re only two thirds full and you miss out on the last third. I have so much more for you.”
Nothing like a loving rebuke from God!!
After he spoke, I was reminded of these scriptures:
In 2 Kings 4, we read of a woman whose husband has died, leaving debts the widow and her two sons could not pay. She had only a small amount of olive oil in her home – nothing else of value.
God’s servant, Elisha, told the woman to borrow all the empty jars from her neighbours, close her doors, and begin pouring the oil from her jar into the borrowed jars. As she obeyed, the widow saw that God provided enough oil to fill all the jars. When the jars ran out, the oil stopped. In other words, heaven didn’t run out of oil, rather earth ran out of empty jars.
The second scripture is in John 4, when Jesus speaks to the woman at the well. During their conversation Jesus tells her the following.
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
These Scriptures reiterated what the Holy Spirit was saying to me. The reason I never had a full water bottle wasn’t because of the drink station; it was because I walked away too quickly. There was plenty of water, but I didn’t have enough patience - another 10 seconds and my bottle would be full.
So, it was with my time with God, I was often impatient, left too early and missed out on a full cup of joy, hope and peace - there was so much more.
Sometimes just waiting the extra five minutes makes all the difference - we hear His voice, adjust our priorities, slow down, receive wisdom and strength for the day. God isn’t a withholder, He hasn’t got a “two thirds full cup” mentality, He has a “full and overflowing” heart towards us.
So, I’m learning to wait and receive all the oil!!
My prayer for all of us-
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
