I believe God has been speaking to me about the creative team moving with the Holy Spirit – hearing his voice and trusting and obeying.

The verse for us is from Isaiah 11:2. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord.

In the Old Testament, the Spirit of the Lord sometimes came to rest on specific people to empower them to do what the Lord had called them to do. Specifically this prophecy was about the Jesus. This same spirit now lives in us.

How does seeing a dropsheet make you feel? – For some it may feel exciting, like being in the midst of a project, a flurry of new ideas, for others it means work - hard work – long hours, for some it may feel uncomfortable, like there is something new happening, something that means things are changing.

The purpose of the Dropsheet - Protection

The main purpose of a dropsheet is to protect what’s already there. It is there to allow us to create, to try things, to step out and have a go to be messy. Trusting God means letting go of our ways and letting God move. It means being willing to appear out of control, unrehearsed. To some of you it might mean singing out in the Spirit, bringing a word in worship or bringing forward a new idea. Listening and obeying.

The best thing about God is that He is always with you, in the successes and the failures. And God not only moves in our weakness. His power is made perfect in our weakness. It’s letting go of the controlled, the place that is familiar and trusting the Holy Spirit .

’But I am with you; that is all you need. My power shows up best in weak people.’ 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

Just like the paint layers on a dropsheet tell of story of past projects, our lives tell the story of who we are, where we have been, what has hurt us, what has made us compassionate, what has made us carry shame, what has made us confident. Society and the culture we live in is also determined by the past, the layers of experiences, the disappointment we live though, the privilege we inherit, the family we are born into or how culture views our Christianity. All of these things shape the lives we live and the determine the way in which we move and engage in the world. By seeing these layers we can understand why some of us see the future through fear and why some through excitement. These layers are not without purpose. Your life is not without purpose. We need to learn to trust the Holy Spirit to use our experiences, our messy paint layers to tell the story he wants to. Ask him to reveal how he wants to use your life, your weaknesses, your talents, who you are for His glory.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13

The Spirit is the revealer of truth.
