MULTIPURPOSE CENTRE
2023 Update
We re replacing our old kids hall with a new multipurpose centre that will be for our kids, youth and the community.
Plans have been in place since 2020, and have been approved by Council.
However, because the cost is so much more than initially costed pre COVID, we are going take a quick pause, relook at the pricing, relook at the plans, the finances, to make sure we are stewarding our resource with wisdom. Right now the tendered price represent the peak supply demand costs. We are also watching interest rates. We are at a critical point. We don’t want rush. We have a fantastic team, some great people speaking into this space. I am excited to see how this moves forward. And as always we will keep you updated, we are all on this journey together.

PROJECT MANAGER
Ian Wood is employed as the Project Manager for the MPC and works 1 day per week. He has extensive experience in a similar role working for 10 years with NSW Health as a Facility Planner including project managing the design and construction of Health facilities with project budgets of multiple millions of dollars. Ian also works 2 days per week for Macquarie Care as a Case Worker for Our Backyard/Manna House.
What are we building?
We are building a Multi-Purpose Centre (MPC) to replace the old Hall. It will include Café, Kitchen, Meeting Rooms, Hall and Storage. It will open out on to a plaza and greenspace. It will also include provision of a tar sealed carpark to replace the current gravel carpark.
What will happen to the old hall?
The current/old hall is approx. 70 years old and has served the church very well during that time. It is now well past its use by date and its condition doesn’t lend itself to further re-use. As such, the hall will be demolished and disposed of as Stage 1 of the redevelopment works.
How long will it take to Build?
The construction industry is in a state of flux currently and this may impact our construction program. An estimate would suggest a 16-2 month duration from commencement of demolition to completion of construction.
Why are we building a Kitchen/cafe when we already have one?
The current café/kitchen services the existing church community and programs, including Sunday services. The MPC café/kitchen will be specifically for users of the MPC, and also use by members of the local community of Macquarie Hills, Cardiff etc. It is designed to allow community outreach events to be conducted using the MPC and to provide hospitality services to those groups.
Why are we building it?
The MPC is part of the Vision for Macquarie Life Church. It will provide contemporary facilities for our Kids Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Community Outreach Programs such as Manna House. We are building for the future.
When will we start Building?
Current tender pricing for the DA is more than anticipated, so we are relooking at the plans and finances to ensure we steward the project well. This is happening at present, with some great minds speaking into the project. We will keep you informed and set at date soon.
Who will use the MPC building?
All groups and departments currently using the Hall will use the MPC once completed. In addition to this Community Organisations will be able to access the MPC facilities as appropriate.
Where will OBY be located?
It is anticipated that the Our Backyard facilities will be located at the Macquarie Road end of the MPC.
