Knock Knock… Who’s there?

Every Tuesday, I have the privilege of teaching Scripture in schools, and I explain to my students that prayer is a conversation with God. As adults, we know that a conversation can be difficult when it is only one way; when the other person isn’t listening or contributing, perhaps one person is doing all the talking. I’m guilty of that. God, however, desires to engage in an intimate, two-way conversation with us.

Two verses that I love...

Matthew 7:8 “For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and he who keeps on knocking, the door will be opened.”

And Jesus speaking to the church says;

Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him and he with Me.”

I love how the knocking goes both ways...we knocking on His door and He knocking on ours. How amazing to have a God who deeply desires to have intimate fellowship with us through prayer. He asks us to share our needs, our fears, to be honest and vulnerable, to share our life and our joys. In the same way, God desires us to hear Him, to listen to His heart, to share in His wisdom and understanding, to receive His encouragement and instruction. Next time you pray, think of it more than just a one-way conversation, a listing of needs and petitions, but take the opportunity to develop a deep, honest and loving relationship where our deepest need is met in hearing from Christ.

Knock, knock…who’s there?
