He is “El Sabaoth”

El Sabaoth is one of the most powerful names of God...translated 'LORD OF HOSTS', 'God of Armies', having military connotations.

As do all the names of God reveal who Yahweh is, El Sabaoth reveals another layer of our almighty God. All authority is His, over all principalities and powers. Ephesians1:21 'FAR above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.' This name of God signifies His sovereignty and power over all creation, including both earthly and heavenly armies. He is the divine commander leading and protecting His people. I always take comfort in the fact that God's angelic army is far more powerful and numerous than satan's.

Sabaoth occurs more than 270 times in the Old Testament. It is the Hebrew name, tsebaoth meaning armies or hosts. It can refer to the multitude of angels, thousands upon thousands (Daniel 7:10) or the immeasurable stars (Psalm 33:6). When combined with the personal name of God, Yahweh, we have a most powerful and awesome image of how great God is.

El Sabaoth first appears in scripture in 1 Samuel1:3 where Hannah calls to the Lord of Hosts in her utter distress of being barren and ridiculed. El Sabaoth answers her cry. What a beautiful picture of God, the personal God, the God of the weak and distressed, using His almighty power, the God of the Angelic Armies, the Lord of Hosts, seeing humble Hannah.. and seeing each one of us .

Prayer.. “Oh Lord of Hosts, El Sabaoth, help each one of us to always call on your Name whenever we need your grace and mighty power. You are magnificent, almighty, everlasting and commander of all. Amen”.
