Turbo Charge your Prayer Life

Matthew 6:16-18

“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.  But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face.  Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

Fasting and prayer are incredible tools for growing closer to God and deepening our faith. Both practices are important in the Bible and can have a big impact on our lives when we use them together.

Fasting might sound a bit intense, but it’s really just about taking a break from something— usually food—to focus more on God. It’s not just about skipping meals; it’s about making space in our lives for spiritual growth. Think of it as hitting pause on the usual distractions to connect with God more deeply.

Jesus fasted for forty days in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-2), showing us how this practice can help us rely more on God’s strength and guidance.

Prayer is our direct line to God. It’s where we share our thoughts, feelings, and requests with Him. When we combine prayer with fasting, it’s like turbocharging our spiritual communication. Jesus told us that some challenges need both fasting and prayer to overcome (Matthew 17:21). When we’re focused on God through both practices, we’re more likely to hear His voice and understand His direction for us.

The beauty of fasting and prayer together is that they help us tune into God more clearly. By setting aside physical comforts, we make room for spiritual growth and clarity. It’s a chance to strengthen our faith and get a fresh perspective on what God wants for us.

Remember, the real power of fasting and prayer comes from our honest, heartfelt desire to connect with God. It’s not about following a strict routine but about seeking God with openness and a willingness to grow. As we practice these disciplines, we open ourselves up to amazing changes in our lives.
